Raise your glass!
Summer 2012 marks Bristol Valley Theater's 20th Anniversary on Main Street. Twenty years of memories, music, and laughter, of spectacular sets, dazzling lights, shimmering costumes and moving performances by actors you've come to love. So this summer, we're ready to celebrate! And our season is chock full of reasons to raise a glass and raise the roof!
We'll start with a quintessential celebration of youthful exuberance and pastel tulle, Prom Night. This one's at Springfield High in 1958 and The Marvelous Wonderettes are your dream dates, serenading you with some of your 1950 and 60's favorites like Mr. Sandman, Lollipop, Secret Love, and It's in His Kiss.
Next we'll share in the bittersweet celebration of Mary's Wedding, a tender romance set at the onset of the first World War. This haunting love story not only celebrates the giddy exultation of first love, but also the sacrifice made by our soldiers and their families.
Beautiful Carla Le Merchant gets a rather unsettling gift as she celebrates her 21st birthday in Agatha Christie's Go Back for Murder: a letter that reveals a deadly family secret. Was her mother a murderer? Carla must delve into the past to uncover the truth and prove her mother's innocence in this rarely-performed whodunnit by the queen of stage suspense.
Pseudolus, the delightfully devious slave in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum wants to celebrate only one thing: His Freedom! So he makes a deal: if he can win the heart of a beautifully batty courtesan for his sincerely smitten master, he'll be a free man. Simple enough? If it was, this wouldn't be one of the most side-splitting musical farces ever to play Broadway.
The laughs just keep coming as newlyweds Paul and Corie Bratter celebrate a housewarming in their first ever New York City apartment in Neil Simon's classic Barefoot in the Park. Though in this case, house- warming may not be the right word: the radiator's kaput. Add a zany neighbor paying visits via the skylight and a meddling mother-in-law at the door--will this marriage survive long enough to celebrate a first anniversary?
Our anniversary gift to you is a 6th bonus production, Pass the Popcorn! GetAway to the Movies. From Singing in the Rain to Mrs. Robinson, we'll be playing it again (Sam), as we celebrate the magic and the music of the movies.
Celebrations, of milestone moments or everyday events, are more than just a chance to catalog a birth, a graduation, the passing of another year. They are occasions to come together, to share a common joy with our friends, our family, our community. So join us to celebrate our 20 years on Main Street and share our joy at being a part of this community for the past twenty years, and the next!
It won't be a party without you!
